Sourav Ganguly: Kohli should be preferred as opener for T20 World Cup: Sourav Ganguly

Leaders Online Desk: Rohit Sharma and Yashvi Jaiswal will open for Team India in T20 World Cup. But former India captain Sourav Ganguly has suggested another option regarding the opening pair. According to him, Ganguly has expressed a clear opinion that the team management should prefer Virat Kohli as the opener and send his partner Rohit or Jaiswal on the field. He made this statement while talking to news agency PTI.

  • Virat Kohli should open the innings in T20 World Cup
  • He will give Team India a great start
  • The team management should prioritize Kohli as an opener
  • His partner should be Rohit or Jaiswal

Ganguly (Sourav Ganguly) further said, 'Virat Kohli is in great form. As RCB's opener, his batting has been dazzling. He is pouring runs in the IPL. He scored 661 runs in 13 matches at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16, including one century and five fifties. It is because of Kohli's innings that RCB have been able to make a tremendous comeback after a poor start. After his quick knock of 90 against Punjab, I believe he will make a great start as India's opening batsman in the T20 World Cup.'

“The selection committee has chosen a balanced team for the T20 World Cup, which has the potential to become champions. But the team management should change the opening pair and create a new formation. Rohit or Jaiswal should be sent to open the innings with Kohli. Sourav Ganguly also said that it will put pressure on the bowlers of the opposing team from the beginning.

Meanwhile, former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has also opined that the Indian team should change the opening pair in the T20 World Cup. Jaiswal should be used with Kohli. Rohit can bat at number four. He has suggested that Suryakumar will be important at number 3.

The T20 World Cup is starting from June 2. The Indian team will play their first match against Ireland on June 5. After that, on June 9, the big match will be played between India and Pakistan.
