The first song 'Main Hi Jhoothi' from singer Gurdas Maan's new album Sound of Soil has been released. This album has 9 songs, which Gurdas Maan considers like 9 gems.
After the release of the first song of the album, Gurdas Maan talked to Dainik Bhaskar on many issues apart from the album. He says that singers should make such songs which maintain peace in the society. Songs full of negativity should not be made because the youth gets confused by this and starts doing wrong things.
Maan sahab also expressed his opinion on the image of Sikhs shown in films. He said that Sikhs are shown as a joke in films. Only in Ranbir Kapoor's film Animal, the image of Sikhs has been shown in a strong manner.
Let's start the conversation with singer Gurdas Maan….
Question- You have appeared in the video of an album after a long gap of 7 years, tell us something about this album Sound of Soil? Answer- During the Corona pandemic, everyone took a break of two-and-a-half years. During this time, many things were lost. The situation had become like depression.
At the same time, some of our solo songs, which are called singles, were released recently. But yes, the album has been released after a long time. There are 9 songs in the Sound of Soil album and all of them have a different flavour. These 9 songs are like nine gems.
Soil means soil, that is, to remain connected to one's soil. In reality too, I am connected to my soil. It is a blessing that I have never become arrogant. The love and respect I have received from my fans is my real earning.
Question- You are also seen dancing in songs. How do you create this kind of energy? Answer- I always keep singing songs. Sometimes I even dance. But when I am asked to sing in a bandish, it becomes a little difficult. Dancing then becomes even more difficult.
There is a style in choreography. You have to dance in a relaxed manner. We have to dance according to the choreographer. There are such restrictions.
During the shoot, I also have to focus on the lyrics of the song so that its flavour does not get lost. The dance has to be in sync with the lyrics of the song. For this, I practice properly.
South's choreographer Shankar ji is a master at this. He gets me properly prepared. We have a 25-year-old friendship. He gets the choreography done for all my projects.
Question- The pain of the partition of the country is clearly visible in your songs, what do you have to say about this? Answer– Yes, this is absolutely true. The people of the neighbouring country are also our own. The truth is that no one can divide Mother Earth. This is beyond everyone.
Today people everywhere talk more about breaking than uniting. My endeavour is to spread brotherhood among people through songs.
Question- What is your opinion on rap or new version of Punjabi songs? Answer- Music has changed a lot with time. Earlier songs used to reflect the story of the film. But today it seems as if we are just watching item numbers.
At the same time, I measure songs by their popularity in the world. We can clearly see that the popularity of Punjabi songs is increasing day by day. It is being heard abroad as well. Punjabi songs have become a part of every kind of function. It is absolutely magical.
My endeavour is to give a social message to the society through songs. Anyway, today there is massacre everywhere. People have become thirsty for each other's blood. We are also witnessing things which we have never seen before.
I had written a song – Main Dharti Punjab Di. This song had a social message. A close person told me that this song is being liked a lot by children as well as elders. In fact, in a school, children had performed a play on this song, after watching which the audience cried.
Question- Gun culture has increased a lot in Punjab. Things like the murder of Sidhu Moosewala have also happened. What do you have to say on this? Answer- We youth consider singers as our ideal. The audience starts following the things we show them through our songs. In such a situation, we should be careful that we give only positive messages to the society through songs. Singers should also work for the welfare of the society sometimes. They are earning money anyway.
Question- Sikhs have their own heroic stories, but their image is shown in films in a negative tone. What would you like to say? Answer- I saw the film Roti Kapda Aur Makaan in which a Sardar was shown as a joke. In the films, the turban of the Sardar is not worth seeing. It seems that they have just put a cap on him. In reality, Sardars wearing turbans look very handsome.
The image of a Sardar is shown a bit dull in films. I have only seen the image of a real Sardar in the film Animal, who is shown full of enthusiasm. Well, all these things depend on the thinking of the director.
Question- You have also acted in films. The audience demands that you work in more Hindi films. Will this happen? Answer- I am very passionate about Punjabi songs. I like singing songs more. I am a little scared while acting.
Question- Why did you refuse to work in many films? Answer- No, it is not like that. I have never refused to work. Why would I not want to work with big actors, actresses and filmmakers?
Question- Maan sahab, how was your childhood? Answer- My childhood was normal like other children. Childhood is absolutely pure. There is no place for things like caste, religion, politics in it.
My childhood was spent having fun and singing. I used to hum whatever songs I heard. I have also worked in the fields.
Question- How did you get involved with singing? Answer- I had an inclination towards music since childhood. However, I never thought that I would become a singer. Because of this, I never got a chance to learn music.
Question- How did your interest in Judo-Karate grow? Answer- I just developed an interest in it over time. It is because of physical education that I am still fit. I have even written songs on it.
Question- What do you consider the biggest struggle of life? Answer- The biggest struggle is to protect the fame that God has given me from evil eyes. God has blessed me with these things, but it is my responsibility to take care of it.
Question- Any wish that you want to fulfill? Answer- I have received a doctorate degree, but I have not added it to my name. My only wish is that people should always have love and respect for me.
