Silence on old pension scheme in Congress manifesto? | leader

New Delhi, Leading News Service: Congress has announced many things in its manifesto. However, no comment was made on the old pension scheme. It is not even mentioned in the party manifesto. In the assembly elections of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Congress had made big promises regarding the old pension scheme. After the government was formed in that state, work was also done in this direction. Like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh also introduced the old pension scheme in the first cabinet meeting after the formation of the government. Congress had also promised to implement this scheme at the center if the government comes to the center.

While explaining the lack of old pension scheme in the manifesto, the chairman of the manifesto committee P. Chidambaram said that the central government has constituted a committee regarding the pension scheme. The committee has not yet submitted its report. It is not appropriate to give any further assurance before the report of the committee. Congress has not discussed the old pension scheme in its manifesto as the report of the committee has not been received. He also said that the Congress is completely serious about the old pension scheme.

On the other hand, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman constituted a high-powered committee in March 2023 to review the National Pension Scheme for Government Employees. With regard to government employees, this committee has been given the task of studying the issue of pension under the National Pension Scheme. The chairman of this committee is Finance Secretary T.V. are Samanathan. The committee is in discussion with the beneficiaries. However, the establishment of this committee has been rejected by the organizations related to the employees.
