Considers Chief Minister Tamang Chamling as a political guru

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has won with a majority in the Sikkim assembly elections. Chief Minister Tamang himself has won from two assembly constituencies. Chief Minister Tamang was a government teacher before joining politics. Instead of working as a teacher, he was more interested in social work. After this he started participating in political events of Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Became a party member. Resigned from government job and became a permanent member of SDF. Chamling considered former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, the founder of the SDF, as his political mentor. Tamang, who considers Chamling as a political guru, raised his voice against the SDF. Following this, SKM defeated the SDF in two consecutive elections and regained power.

Chamling's 25 years in power begins in 2019

In 2019, the SKM party led by Tamang won for the first time in the state. Pawan Kumar Chamling's government, which was in power for 24 years, 5 months and 15 days, had to be ousted from power. SKM came to power by winning 17 seats. The Pawan Kumar Chamling government had to step down and the Prem Singh Tamang government emerged in the state.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang's Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has won a clear majority in the Sikkim Assembly elections, which coincide with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. SKM has won 19 out of 32 seats so far. SKM thus got a clear majority while the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won only one seat.
