Shoma Sen granted conditional bail in Bhima Koregaon riot case leader









New Delhi, Leading News Service: The Supreme Court on Friday granted conditional bail to Shoma Sen, former professor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University and human rights activist, who has been in jail for the past six years for alleged links with Maoists in the Bhima Koregaon riots case.

Shoma Sen was arrested on June 6, 2018 after a case was registered against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 (UAPA). Since then she has been in jail. His bail application was heard before a bench of Justice Anirudh Bose and Justice Augustine George Masih. In this hearing, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) counsel told the court that Shoma Sen is 62 years old and has various ailments so we do not need his custody.

The judge granted bail to Shoma Sen on certain conditions. The court granted bail to Sen by imposing conditions that Sen should not go outside the state without taking the permission of the Special Sessions Court, submit his passport to the investigating authorities, provide all the information like residential address, mobile number and keep GPS location in his mobile phone. A riot took place in Bhima Koregaon on January 1, 2018. 16 accused have been arrested in this case and six of them have been granted bail.
