Shekhar Kapur, director of the cult film Mr. India, released in 1987, has shared an anecdote related to the film. Recalling the days of the shoot, Shekhar said that in a famous scene of the film, a cockroach chases Sridevi. Scared of the cockroach, Sridevi starts running around the room. Shooting this scene was a big challenge for him. Because how to make a cockroach act was a big question. The film's cinematographer Baba Azmi found a solution.
Talking to Daily Post, Shekhar said- Baba Azmi and I thought of making the cockroaches drink alcohol. He will do something drunk. Both of them spilled some rum in front of the cockroach. After some time the cockroach actually started running here and there. Shekhar felt that the cockroach was really drunk. He said- Cockroaches might have liked the liquor.
During an interview with Ranveer Allahabadi, Shekhar Kapur had narrated an interesting incident during the making of Mr. India. He told that producer Boney Kapoor and lead actor Anil Kapoor were very scared during filmmaking.
He said, Anil Kapoor was scared the day the film started. He is very afraid. Boney was also very scared, he was wondering whether the film would work or not. He had said, all our money invested, that of the entire family, will be exhausted. There was fear, no one knew what would happen.
Mr. India was a mega budget film of that era.
Let us tell you that the film Mr. India was made in the 80's for Rs 3 crore 80 lakh. This was a huge amount for those times. This was the only fictional film of its kind, in which the story of disappearance was shown.
Before Anil Kapoor, this role was given to Amitabh Bachchan, but Amitabh did not like the idea. He felt that this type of science fictional film would not work, so he flatly refused to work in the film. Although this film, released in 1987, was a blockbuster, it still enjoys cult status.
