Shammi Kapoor had spread the rumour of his marriage with Asha: Veteran actress said, 'His girlfriend was upset, my parents were shocked'

Veteran actress Asha Parekh has talked about her bonding with late actor Shammi Kapoor. Both of them worked together in films like 'Teesri Manzil', 'Dil Deke Dekho' and 'Pagla Kahin Ka'. During this time, Shammi Kapoor had said that he was married to Asha Parekh, hearing which everyone was surprised. Now in an interview, Asha Parekh has told the story behind this statement of Shammi Kapoor.

Asha Parekh's parents went into shock

Asha Parekh, who was present as a guest on the chat show 'The Invincible Series with Arbaaz Khan Season 2', clarified the news of her marriage with Shammi Kapoor and said, 'This is a long story. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar when Om Prakash ji told everyone that Shammi ji and I are married. Everyone was shocked and then there was a party at Nasir Hussain ji's place where everyone started whispering that they are married.'

Asha further said, 'Well-known journalist Devyani ji was also present there. She also heard it and asked me – are you married now? I was unable to understand what was happening. Shammi ji told me not to say anything. I said okay. Actually he was pranking. My father also left the set immediately. Everyone saw my father leaving the set and asked me why he left.'

Asha further said, 'Later father told me that he and mother were shocked to hear about the marriage and hence they left the set. During that time Shammi ji was also dating someone and that girl was also upset after hearing the false news of the marriage.'

Asha Parekh is now 81 years old.

'Dil Deke Dekho' became a superstar overnight

Shammi Kapoor was opposite Asha Parekh in the film 'Dil Deke Dekho'. The film proved to be a superhit and Asha became a Bollywood superstar overnight.

After this film, Hussain signed Asha for six more films – Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wahi Dil Laaya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969) and Caravan (1971), all of which were box office successes.

Apart from this, Asha also gave superhit films like 'Kati Patang', 'Upkaar', 'Aan Milo Sajna' and 'Love in Tokyo' in her career.

Asha Parekh, who has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement and Padma Shri awards, has worked in about 95 Bollywood films in a career spanning 40 years. She was last seen in the 1999 film 'Sar Aankhon Par'.
