Pankaj Kapoor, Rajesh Kumar and Anjini Dhawan starrer film Binny and Family will be released on 20 September. Anjini is the granddaughter of famous film maker David Dhawan and niece of actor Varun Dhawan. She is making her debut through this film.
In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he talked about the process of choosing and shooting his first film. Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor talked about the story of the film and the journey of his son Shahid Kapoor.
Question- What is the most beautiful thing about the film? Why did you agree to work in it?
Pankaj Kapoor- When I heard the story of the film, I felt that this is the situation in every Indian's home. Even if there is distance between family members with time. Even if their thinking changes. Even if there is a generation gap, the connection never breaks. An attempt has been made to show the same in this film as well.
Rajesh Kumar- NRIs will relate to this film a lot. The film is based on the background of London. Houses in London are small. When many people suddenly come to a small house, it becomes challenging to manage. Then the nature is revealed in the absence. We will find ourselves somewhere in one of the characters of the film.
Anjini Dhawan– After watching this film, you will feel like calling your parents and grandparents immediately. After watching the film, you will feel happy and cry too. This is the biggest beauty of this film.
Q. What are the similarities between your character Binny in the film and your real life character, Anjini? You tell?
answer- There are a lot of similarities. My grandfather used to get angry at me for wearing torn jeans. He used to say who buys torn jeans. Similarly, Binny also wears torn jeans in the film. Her grandmother sits down to stitch them.
Question- How was it working with veterans like Anjini, Pankaj Kapoor and a seasoned artist like Rajesh Kumar. Tell us about the atmosphere on the set?
answer- I won't lie, I was a little stressed initially. However, when I reached the set, the atmosphere was quite chill. There was a lot of fun and laughter.
In the middle of Anjini's answer, Rajesh Kumar said, 'It must have been the second day of the shoot. Pankaj Sir was sitting on the side. I thought of going to him and talking to him. He called me and said that if you had worked with me 10 years ago, I would not have talked so much. Now I have become a little more open than before. (laughs)
Question- Pankaj ji, did you really keep yourself very reserved?
answer- No, it is not like that. I just did not talk much during the shooting. I did not want to disturb others by talking too much. After doing my shot, I would sit in a corner and start preparing for the next shot. I did a show called Jabaan Sambhal Ke. It had about 104 episodes. A foreign actor used to work in it.
When we completed one year of working, everyone was asked to sit together and share their experiences. That foreign actor then said that it took us one year to bring Pankaj ji's chair from there to here, this is our biggest shooting experience.
Question: Anjini, did any suggestion come from uncle Varun Dhawan and grandfather David Dhawan?
answer- Before the shoot, everyone had the same advice that be honest towards your work. Do whatever you want to do with all your heart. If you are honest, then nothing wrong will happen to you.
Question- How is your relationship with your father and now with your children? Pankaj ji, please tell me?
answer- My father was my best friend. I have never had a better friend than him. I could talk to him about every issue of life. I became an actor only because of my father. When I told him that I want to become an actor, he was very happy. He said that I am proud of my son because at the age of 18 he knows what to do.
I have maintained a similar relationship with my children. My children can also talk to me on any subject. If I don't understand something, I ask my children about it without hesitation. There is no shame in this.
Question: Pankaj ji, how do you see Shahid Kapoor's journey as a father?
answer– Whatever Shahid has done, he has done it with his hard work. He never took help from anyone. He had decided from the beginning that he has to achieve something on his own and not with the help of his father. If we leave aside the initial few projects, he has chosen films very well. Today I am proud of my son that he has achieved so much at such a young age.
