Separatism… India rejects signing of Ukraine peace accord

Leaders Online Desk : Some countries, including India, refused to sign a joint statement at a summit organized by Switzerland for peace in Ukraine. India demanded an 'honest and pragmatic partnership' for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Pawan Kapoor, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs represented India at the summit held at the Swiss resort of Bergenstock, which was attended by representatives of more than 100 countries and organisations, including several heads of state.

India remained isolated in the summit

India distanced itself from any communication or document issued from the summit. In his brief speech, the senior Indian diplomat said that India's participation in the Peace Summit and several meetings of senior officials based on the Ukraine Peace Formula have made it clear that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy.

The main objective of the summit, which concluded on Sunday, was to inspire the future peace process. Russia was not invited to the conference, while China chose not to attend. The Indian delegation participated in the opening and closing plenary sessions of the summit.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “India has not associated itself with any of the communiques or documents issued from this summit.” India's participation in the conference, as well as participation in previous NSA or Political Director level meetings based on Ukraine's peace formula, reflects our continued efforts towards a lasting and peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,” the ministry said.
