Sandeshkhali: The case of violence under Sandesh should be investigated impartially by the Central Investigation Agency, Human Rights Commission recommends leader









New Delhi, Leading News Service: The National Human Rights Commission has also jumped into the case of violence under the controversial message in West Bengal in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections. The Human Rights Commission has recommended an impartial investigation by the Central Investigation Agency into the case of violence under Sandesh. The Human Rights Commission has also alleged that the Commission's team that went to investigate the violence was not getting cooperation from the local police and administration. (Sandeshkhali)

The Human Rights Commission has made 12 recommendations in this matter. It also includes returning expropriated lands to their rightful owners and tracing missing women in the area. The commission has also directed the West Bengal government to submit a report on the action taken on each recommendation within eight weeks. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the recriminations between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP have reached a peak. (Sandeshkhali)

Incidents of violence against women and sexual harassment at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal had created a sensation. BJP created a big ruckus in the state over this issue. After the Sandeshkhali issue came to light in the media, the National Human Rights Commission took cognizance of it and on February 21 appointed an investigation team. The West Bengal Police had told the commission that 25 cases have been registered in this incident, of which 7 cases are related to sexual harassment of women.

Following this incident, a team of the Human Rights Commission visited the scene of the violence in Sandeshthale and issued a report expressing concern about the violation of human rights. In this report, it is said that the government agencies have failed in their duty for the violation of human rights. The report has been sent to West Bengal Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and has been directed to submit action report on all the recommendations made by the Human Rights Commission within eight weeks. Apart from this, the inspection report of the commission has also been asked to be published on the website of the state government for wide publicity.
