The Salim Javed duo, who wrote dialogues for many great films like Sholay, Deewar, Zanjeer, had written a total of 24 films, out of which 22 were back-to-back blockbusters. However, a time came when this blockbuster duo suddenly broke up. Recently, the documentary Angry Young Man made on the Salim-Javed writer duo has been streamed on Amazon Prime, in which Salman Khan has told that Salim Sahab was disturbed when the duo broke up with Javed Sahab.
In the recently streamed episode, Salman has told about the first reaction of his father Salim on the breakup of Salim-Javed duo. Salman has told that the day the partnership broke, his father Salim sahab came home, he was quite disturbed. Salman Khan was sitting at the dining table. Salim sahab came and he said, Javed and my partnership (Salim sahab became silent after saying this) then said, he wants to separate. Salman asked him- why? You did not say anything? On this Salim sahab denied. Salman again asked, there must be some reason. So in response to this he said, if he has to go then he has to go. After saying this Salim sahab became silent.
Javed Akhtar's first wife Honey Irani also told about Javed sahab's reaction on the breakup in a part of the documentary. One day Javed sahab came home and said, I have a bad news for you. Honey Irani felt that Javed sahab had hit the car again. When she asked this question, Javed sahab said, no, I have separated from Salim sahab. When Honey Irani wanted to know the reason for this, Javed sahab said, don't ask me this question again.
Why did the Salim-Javed pair break up?
Amitabh Bachchan became a star with the film Zanjeer written by Salim-Javed duo. When years later the same duo asked Amitabh Bachchan to work in their film Mr. India, he flatly refused. Amitabh said, I am a hero, people come to see me, who will come to listen to my voice.
Obviously, the concept of Mr. India was quite strange for the 80s. Fiction films were made only in name till that time, most of which were flops. But Salim-Javed were very angry with Amitabh's refusal. Javed Akhtar decided that he would no longer work with Amitabh Bachchan, although Salim sahab was not ready for this decision.
A few days later, Javed sahab reached the Holi party at Amitabh Bachchan's house and told him that Salim Khan never wanted to work with him. Due to this misunderstanding, the working relationship of the pair deteriorated and the two never worked together again. Eventually, in 1982, the hit pair broke up, although their friendship is still intact.
