Russia will support North Korea: President Vladimir Putin









Leader Online Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a summit today (Dec 19) after a grand reception at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, Russian media reported, with Vladimir Putin vowing to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea today (19th) morning after 24 years. Korean leader Kim Jong Un himself gave him a warm welcome at the airport. A delegation of 10 Russian ministers and officials is present with Putin. These include Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Andrey Belousov.

In addition to a grand parade to welcome Putin, the 105-story Rugyong Hotel in Pyongyang was decorated with LED lights, according to international media reports. 'Welcome Putin' and 'Friendship' were written on it. According to Russian news agency Interfax, the two leaders also held a bilateral meeting. Meanwhile, Putin thanked Kim Jong for supporting Russia in the Ukraine war.

Russia Will Support North Korea: Putin

During the visit, Vladimir Putin assured that Russia will support North Korea against US pressure and threats. At the same time, Kim Jong was also invited to visit Russia. Kim Jong was previously welcomed by Putin when he arrived at Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome in September 2013. During the meeting, Kim Jong had said that he supports Russia's war against Ukraine, saying that both countries are moving towards a new stage of development. In such a situation, North Korea is determined to further enhance its friendship with Russia.

Closer relationship between Russia and North Korea increased?

Kim Jong Un, who took power in North Korea in 2011, tried to build good relations with Russia and China like his father. In 2012, Russia forgave all of North Korea's debts. According to reports, Russia has been trying to improve relations with anti-US countries since the start of the Ukraine war.
