The famous actress of the 90s, Raveena Tandon, has turned 50 today. On this occasion, he has given an exclusive interview to Dainik Bhaskar.
'I am not comfortable with kissing scenes on screen. I have a boundary, I can never cross it. I was asked to wear a short dress in a film. I flatly refused. I think it is not necessary to wear short clothes to look beautiful. Movies are driven by stories, not by heroines wearing short clothes.
Raveena Tandon said this in an interview given to Dainik Bhaskar on her 50th birthday. Raveena, born on October 26, 1974, had many ups and downs in her career, but she never compromised with her principles.
At one time there was a lot of discussion about Raveena's beauty. Even the former Prime Minister of neighboring country Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif was impressed by her beauty.
Raveena Tandon never wanted to enter the acting field. She wanted to become an IPS officer. She was a big fan of the country's first female IPS officer Kiran Bedi.
One day he got an offer to do a film opposite Salman Khan. The film's producer G.P. Sippy had called Raveena's father. This film was- Pathar Ke Phool. The time was 1991. The girl who never wanted to act, soon became one of the biggest heroines of the 90s.
Raveena used to go to school with oil in her hair and two braids. Raveena said, 'You will not believe, I was very fat in childhood. She used to go to school with oil in her hair and two braids. No one thought that I would ever become an actress. My brother was more interested in acting than me. My mind was not in acting but in direction.
When I went out to do an internship, I was truly introduced to the outside world. Raveena further said, 'When I was in 8th, I assisted my father in a film. After 10th, I started doing internship under Prahlad Kakkar (well-known ad director). From there I got to learn things like ad film making, pre and post production.
During this time I was introduced to the outside world. Traveled by train and bus for the first time, met people. In a way, for the first time I got external exposure.
Friends started saying- Just do a film, get a photo taken with Salman. When Raveena had no desire to enter films, then what happened that she joined the industry? In response he said, 'At that time Mahesh Bhatt Sahab had launched his daughter Pooja Bhatt. People also told my father to launch his daughter. However, I wanted to get work on my own.
My boss Prahlad Kakkar also used to say that how long will you stay behind the camera, you should come forward. I was getting rejected one offer after another. Then I was offered a film Pathar Ke Phool with Salman Khan.
Salman had become quite famous at that time because of 'Maine Pyar Kiya'. I told my college friends that I have been offered a film with Salman. All my friends jumped with joy and started pressurizing me to sign the film. Ultimately I also took permission from father and said yes to the film.
Worked with Salman, but had a lot of fights on the sets Raveena told, 'I and Salman used to fight a lot on the sets. Just like brothers and sisters used to fight at home, similarly we both used to fight on the sets. Salman used to pull my leg a lot. I used to get irritated and started fighting with him. Well, at that time both of us were childish. Now with time we have become very good friends.
Poster of Salman and Raveena's film Patthar Ke Phool (1991). This was Raveena's debut film, whereas it had been 3 years since Salman joined the industry.
Like Salman, Raveena also never gave a kissing scene on screen. There is one thing in common between Raveena Tandon and Salman Khan. Both of them never gave a kissing scene on screen. Regarding this, Raveena says, 'Well, I did not know that even Salman has never kissed on screen.
Well, kissing etc. are very personal things. I am not comfortable with kissing scenes on screen. Now, I will never be able to do anything that I am not comfortable with. I have a boundary which I can never cross.
Asked to wear short dress in Shahrukh's film Raveena further said, 'I was asked to wear a short dress in a Shahrukh Khan film. I flatly refused. I would not like to take the name of that film.
I think it is not necessary to wear short clothes to look beautiful. If make-up and dressing style is good, beauty will automatically emerge. No matter how short a dress you wear on screen, if the story is not strong then the film will not work.
Raveena used to travel in an open jeep, people used to stop and watch Raveena Tandon used to go to college in an open jeep. Whenever she passed by the road, there would be a queue of people watching. Raveena said, 'I had a Mahindra jeep, I used to go to college in it. Papa taught me driving. He used to give me more information about the tools of the car than about the car itself. He used to tell me many things including stepney change, water coolant and over heating.
When Air Force trolled Nawaz Sharif by writing Raveena's name on the missile Kargil war took place between India and Pakistan in 1999. An interesting incident happened in this war. Actually, the Indian Air Force had written the names of Raveena and Nawaz Sharif on a missile sent to Pakistan. It was written on that missile- FROM RAVEENA TONDON TO NAWAJ SHARIF
It means – from Raveena Tandon to Nawaz Sharif. Now let's go into the background of this matter. Actually, Nawaz Sharif had praised Raveena Tandon in an interview. He had called Raveena his favorite actress.

There is another story regarding this. During the Kargil war, the Indian Army asked for the bodies of its martyred soldiers. Then the Pakistani army made a strange demand. He said that we will give the dead body, but in return Raveena Tandon and Madhuri Dixit will have to be sent to Pakistan.
You are a celebrity, which means it will be your fault Raveena said that if we look at the past and present times, the attitude of the public and media towards celebrities has changed a bit.
At the end of the interview he said, 'Earlier anything about celebrities was published in newspapers. He was not even asked anything. His opinion was not considered important. It was believed that if the person was a celebrity then it would be his fault. There has been a slight change in today's times. Now even celebrities' side is heard.
