Sikkim Assembly Election Result 2024
Leader Online Desk: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang's Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has won a clear majority in the Sikkim Assembly elections held alongside the Lok Sabha elections. SKM has so far won 19 seats in the 32-member Sikkim Legislative Assembly. Therefore, SKM has got a clear majority. While the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won only one seat.
In Sikkim, the main battle took place between the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Voting for 32 assembly seats was held on April 19. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has retained power after crossing the majority mark in 17 out of 32 assembly seats in the assembly elections. SKM has won 18 seats and is leading in 13 seats. Counting of votes is in progress. While SDF has won one seat and is leading in one seat.

The 24-year rule of the SDF ended in the 2019 elections. He was defeated by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), formed in 2013 under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Congress out of power since 1984
Congress has been out of power in Sikkim since 1984. After the creation of the state of Sikkim, the Congress could come to power only twice. From 1975 to 1979 and thereafter Bibi Gurung was the Chief Minister for 14 days (11 May 1984 to 25 May 1984). After this, Congress could not return to Sikkim. Only regional parties are in power here. Pawan Chamling of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) was the longest serving Chief Minister with five terms (1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014). For the first time in 2019, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) defeated the SDF under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
