It is said that illegitimate relationships always end with horror. This saying proved important in solving the mystery of the murder of Patna model Mona Rai alias Anita Devi. On 12 October 2021, bullets were fired at Mona Rai returning from the temple. He dies during treatment 5 days after the incident. When Mona was interrogated while she was alive, she just kept repeating that she had no enmity with anyone. However, when the investigation took place, a long list of rivalries and controversies came to light.

October 12, 2021, was the seventh day of Navratri.
Patna's famous model Mona Rai alias Anita Devi had observed a fast during Navratri and used to go to the nearby temple every day to have darshan of Mata. That day also she had gone to the temple on a scooty with her 12 year old daughter Aarohi. After visiting Mona Rai, she returned home in Basant Vihar Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Patna.
He got the daughter off the scooter, which started going inside through the channel gate. Mona was about to park her car after sending her daughter, the door was just a few steps away when suddenly two bikers stopped near her.
Before Mona could ask or understand anything, the person sitting behind on the bike started firing bullets at her. Mona fell there drenched in blood, on seeing which the daughter shuddered and started screaming. Hearing the screams of the girl and the sounds of gunshots, people from the neighborhood gathered. The attackers ran away after firing.
Mona was groaning in pain. He was immediately taken to the nearest private hospital. The hospital people informed the police about the incident. After which a case was filed and investigation was started.
Everyone's question was that what kind of enmity could Mona Rai, a housewife and modest model, have had with anyone that she was attacked with this barbarity? In the attack, bullets hit Mona's lower body, due to which her kidneys were damaged. After not getting proper treatment in the private hospital, he was referred to IGIMS (Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences), where he underwent surgery.
As soon as Mona regained consciousness, Patna Police started interrogating her. However, Mona just kept saying in a groaning voice that she had no enmity with anyone, nor did she suspect anyone.
There was a crowd of people meeting Mona Rai along with the police in the hospital. Meanwhile, the police noticed a person who was eager to meet Mona, although Mona's family was not very happy to see him. When the police interrogated, it came to light that the name of that person is Raju, who is a famous builder of the city. Raju and Mona were having illicit relations for a long time.
Raju Builder's presence in the hospital proved to be an important link in the case for the police. When the police interrogated Raju the very next day of the attack, it was revealed that he was in a relationship with Mona for the last 9 years. Both of them used to meet often and both their families were also aware of this. The relationship was irritating to everyone, but both were together despite constant rift with the family.
Raju Builder confessed to his relationship with Mona, but his links did not appear to be linked to the murder. Police also raided Raju Builder's rented flat in Chandrakutir Apartment in Rajiv Nagar, where he used to spend time with Mona. No clue related to the murder was found in the house, but the police tightened the noose after finding a liquor bottle. Actually, liquor is banned in Bihar, hence the police filed a case against Raju Builder and arrested him for purchasing and consuming illegal liquor.
On the other hand, Mona's condition remained critical. Mona was interrogated every day, but the results remained zero. Mona had also confessed to having a relationship with Raju Builder, but she did not doubt Raju. Only 5 days had passed when Mona died on the morning of 17 October while fighting between life and death. The bullets had pierced his kidneys, due to which first the kidneys and then other organs gradually stopped functioning. The attack case had now transformed into a murder case.

Mona Rai alias Anita Devi, resident of Patna, Bihar, was a housewife. She is married to Suman Kumar, who runs a photocopy shop, and has two children, Aarohi and Naitik.
Around the year 2012, Mona Rai met her neighbor Amir Raju Builder while living in Phulwari Sharif. Raju was married and had a son. The meetings between the two increased and with time their illicit relationship began to blossom.
After meeting Raju the builder, Mona's lifestyle started changing. After meeting middle class Mona Raju, she became spendthrift, got her children admitted in expensive schools and also started modeling herself. In the year 2020, she also participated in Mrs. Bihar pageant and was a top-3 finalist. After this, she started getting many modeling projects. After joining the modeling world, she changed her name from Anita Devi to Mona Rai.
Mona also participated in Miss Global Bihar, in which she got the tag of Best Eye.
The increasing meetings between Mona and Raju did not remain hidden from their families for long. Both their families had objections to their illegitimate relationship. This was the reason why Mona's husband Suman had shifted with his family from Phulwari Sharif to Basant Vihar in Rajiv Nagar, where Mona was murdered.
The way this massacre was carried out, it was clear that the shooters who fired the bullets were professionals, who had been given betel nuts, but the question was who could have given betel nuts to the ordinary model. Had Raju Builder given contract to Mona to get rid of her? Did husband Suman get Mona murdered due to her illegitimate relationship? Or did the shooter come to shoot someone else, but out of deceit fired at Mona?
To get answers to these questions, Patna Police took strict action against Mona's boyfriend Raju Builder. It also came to light that 4 months ago Raju had purchased a plot in the name of Mona in Phulwari Sharif area. Despite trying every trick, when no correct answer could be found from Raju, the police started investigating Raju's family. After a week's effort, Raju was seen connecting with shooter Bhim Yadav of the builder's family. To establish this connection, the police took the help of technical surveillance, in which the help of CCTV footage and mobile tower network near the crime scene was taken.
Bhim Yadav's mobile number was active in the same area a few weeks before the attack on Mona Rai. Finally, on October 25, the police arrested Bhim Yadav from Bhojpur. During the initial interrogation, Bhim Yadav kept claiming himself to be innocent, but he broke down when subjected to strict action.

Bhim Yadav confessed in his statement to the police that he was given contract to kill Mona Rai. He had taken betel nut contract with his associates Shankar Kumar and Vishwakarma for Rs 5 lakh, they had received Rs 2.25 lakh as advance. He was living in a rented house in Rajiv Nagar for the last one month and was keeping an eye on Mona while roaming on Apache bike. As soon as they got the opportunity on October 12, both of them committed the crime. Shankar was riding the bike, while a person named Vishwakarma had opened fire on Mona.
When Bhima was asked who was the person who gave the betel nut, everyone was surprised to hear Bhima's statement. Actually, the conspiracy to murder Mona Rai was not hatched by Raju Builder, but by his wife Sharda Devi. A homely looking woman was the mastermind of this massacre.
After the confession of shooter Bhim Yadav, Patna Police announced solving the murder case through a press conference. Police revealed that Raju Builder was in a relationship with Mona Rai for the last 9 years. His family was also aware of this, due to which there used to be fights in their house every day.
Raju builder's minor son was also angry with his father's affair. A few months ago, when Raju bought a plot worth Rs 25 lakh for Mona, his wife Sharda and son also came to know about it. They were afraid that Raju would gradually give away everything in Mona's name and they would get nothing. Sharda Devi conspired this murder to remove Mona from Raju's life.
To remove Mona from her path, Sharda Devi took the help of her nephew Rahul and entrusted him with the task of hiring a professional shooter for Rs 5 lakh. Rs 3 lakh was given as advance, while Rs 2 lakh was to be given after the work was completed. Three months passed, but Rahul could not work.
When Sharda was furious and started pressurizing him, Rahul made her meet Sudesh, who was a resident of Arrah. He seemed to be a distant relative of Sharda. Sharda gave the money given to Rahul to Sudesh. It was Sudesh who gave betel nut to one of his relatives, Shankar, who was a shooter. As soon as Shankar took the advance, he included his cousin Bhola and distant relative Vishwakarma in the plan.
Raju Builder's minor son was also involved in this plan. It was he who told the shooters the address of Mona's house and showed her face. Just a month ago, Shankar, Bhim and Vishwakarma had rented a house in Rajiv Nagar to do Reiki. The month was about to end, but all three were not completing the work, so Sharda threatened them that if the work was not done soon, she would have to return the advance amount.
On October 12, Shankar had gone to Arrah for some work. Meanwhile, Sharda informs him that Mona is going to go to the temple on the occasion of Navratri. As soon as he got the lead, he put his colleagues to work. Both the shooters were sitting outside the house in ambush, when Mona returned from the temple with her daughter. Both of them opened fire on him as soon as they got the chance.
After Bheem's arrest, the shooter Vishwakarma, who opened fire on Mona, surrendered, while the 5 accused named in the case are still out of police custody. Patna Police raided many places to search for everyone, but no one could be arrested.
Patna police still searching for mastermind after 3 years
We contacted Patna Police in this matter. The constable present in the police station, without disclosing the name, only gave this information that till now the mastermind Sharda Devi has not been arrested in the Mona Rai murder case. Sharda Devi and other absconding accused have been confiscated (property and all things are in the government's possession). This matter is still in the court.
