Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan got married in 1973. It was said that Jaya Bachchan's father, journalist Tarun Kumar Bhaduri, was against their marriage. However, according to a report, Jaya's father had no objection to their marriage. But the Pandit did not want Amitabh and Jaya to get married.
Amitabh-Jaya's marriage was kept a secret
Actually, in 1989, Jaya Bachchan's father Tarun Bhaduri wrote an article for the Illustrated Weekly of India. In which he told how Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan got married. He wrote, 'One day Amitabh called Jaya's mother and informed her about the marriage and called her to Mumbai immediately. The very next day we all reached Mumbai. Our friends live in Malabar Hills, so the preparations for their marriage were done there. This marriage was kept completely secret.'
Pandit had objection to Big B not being a Bengali Brahmin
He further wrote, 'I am an atheist, but Jaya's mother wanted this marriage to be according to Bengali customs. At first, a Bengali Pandit was not available, when a Bengali Pandit was found with great difficulty, he refused to marry the two, because Amitabh is not a Bengali Brahmin. However, later somehow this matter was resolved. Amitabh also performed all the rituals very well. The next day after the marriage, Amitabh went to London, when he returned, a reception was held in Bhopal. There also Amitabh did everything that he was told.'
Jaya's father had no problem with the marriage
Jaya's father had also given his reaction on the news of being upset over his daughter's marriage. He said, 'Tell me one reason why I would oppose their marriage. Amitabh is a very good person. I had full faith in my daughter that she would never fall in love with an ordinary person. At that time there were many people who said that Jaya was a big star, due to which Amitabh wanted to marry her, but it is not so. Amitabh waited till the release of his big film Zanjeer. However, Jaya would have married him anyway.
