Leaders Online Desk : Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was elected as the President of Pakistan today (March 9). Zardari has become the first leader to be elected as the President of Pakistan (Pakistan's President Election) for the second time. He is the husband of late former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto. His party has supported the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government. Pakistan's presidential election: The election was held on February 8

Elections were held in Pakistan on February 8. No party got majority. Asif Ali Zardari's 'PPP' supported Nawaz Sharif's 'PML-N' party's prime ministerial candidate Shehbaz Sharif. Now Zardari got the support of 'PML-N' in the presidential election. In the presidential election, Zardari was challenged by Pashtun Khwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He was supported by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, along with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

After the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Zardari became active in politics

Benazir was assassinated in 2007. In the elections held after this, Zardari's 'PPP' got a resounding success. After this he became the President of Pakistan. His son Bilawal Zardari Bhutto became the Foreign Minister. Zardari previously served as President from 2008 to 2013. Although Zardari will be the president in the new power equation after the elections, the real sources will be in the hands of the military.
