Hearing the name 'Jethalal' brings a smile on everyone's face. Also, the face of actor Dilip Joshi comes to mind who has become a household name with this character in the TV show 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. Talking about his fan following, people of all ages are crazy about his acting. Born on 26 May 1968, Dilip is celebrating his 56th birthday today.

Dilip started his career as a backstage artist at the age of 12. At that time, he used to get 50 rupees for each role. But today Dilip charges 1.5 lakhs per day. He made his Bollywood debut in 1989 with Salman Khan and Bhagyashree's film 'Maine Pyar Kiya'. In this, he played a small role of Salman's servant 'Ramu'. He did not get much recognition from this film. After this, he got the role of a supporting artist with Salman for the second time in 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. After this film, a few people started recognizing him. Dilip's co-actors say that he is a one-take artist. He has to take retakes only because of the actor opposite him.

Dilip Joshi worked in many films like 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun', 'One Two Ka Four', 'Humraaz', 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani', 'Khiladi 420'. Apart from this, he did not leave TV either. He worked in many TV shows, but he could not get the recognition he wanted even from them. He became unemployed in the year 2006.

Dilip had told in an interview that he was a fan of Madhuri Dixit. When he saw Madhuri in person for the first time during 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun', it was no less than a fan moment for him. Dilip reached the set ready before the call time to meet Madhuri. Praising the film's director Sooraj Barjatya, he said that he introduced me to Madhuri as a famous Gujarati actor. I was very happy with this.

Talking about his struggling days in an interview, Dilip said that even after doing many films, he did not have any work for a long time. When his daughter was born, he had only 25 thousand rupees in his account, out of which 13 thousand rupees were spent in the hospital.

Dilip, who was facing financial problems, got an offer of Comedy Circus. He was offered good money in this, but Dilip rejected this offer because of the below the belt type of jokes in the show. Dilip always wanted to do such work that his family members could watch with pride. After one and a half months, he got work in 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' in the year 2008 and he made his mark in every household.

Shared a room with Salman during the shooting

Dilip Joshi had shared an anecdote about working with Salman Khan during an interview. Dilip had said- The shooting of the film 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' was going on in Filmistan Studio. During this time he got a chance to share a room with Salman, but Salman never objected to this. Despite being a star, he never threw any tantrums. Rather he helped me a lot. It was a lot of fun working with Salman.

During the shooting, Salman came to know that Dilip comes from a theatre background. After knowing this, Salman would often ask Dilip after the scene how the scene was.

Experience of working in a film with Shahrukh

Dilip had worked with Shahrukh Khan in the film 'One Two Ka Four'. Dilip says that before doing the scene with Shahrukh, we thought of rehearsing. Now since Dilip is from a theatre background, he had the habit of improvising. He improvised a little in a scene. Seeing this, Shahrukh turned his eyes towards him. Now Dilip was not able to understand the meaning of this look of Shahrukh. He thought that maybe I should not have improvised.

When we rehearsed again, I spoke the same lines that were written in the script. Seeing this, Shahrukh told me – no…no, speak the same old one. That is much better. Dilip was very happy to hear this. He says that Shahrukh is also from a theater background, so he was understanding this. Dilip says that Shahrukh is very cooperative, he enjoyed working with him a lot.

The audience liked this scene of Dilip Joshi in 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'.

Dilip failed in 12th class. He was not interested in studies. In his childhood, he never thought of becoming an actor in films or TV. Yes, but he was very fond of acting. Born in a Gujarati Brahmin family of Gosa village in Porbandar, Dilip took admission in Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from MM College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.

However, due to his interest in drama and lack of interest in studies, he left his studies midway and joined Prithvi Theatre. By the way, Dilip still regrets leaving his studies midway.

Dilip, who has a passion for acting, started acting at the age of 12. In an interview, he narrated some interesting anecdotes related to his acting. After joining Prithvi Theatre, he initially got backstage work, but he never cared about it. He loves performing in front of a live audience. He says that when hundreds of people clap for your act in front of you, the thunderous applause gives a lot of relief.

Dilip Joshi stood for 6 minutes as Lord Ranchhod Das

This is the time when Dilip did his first play, in which he played the role of Bhagwan Ranchhod Das. In this play, he stood like a statue for about 5 to 6 minutes. Now because he was standing like a god, he had to be worshipped in the scene. Agarbatti (incense stick) is lit in front of him and its smoke starts falling on his eyes. Now he cannot blink his eyes, but tears start flowing from his eyes. A child sitting in the audience shouts loudly that mummy…mummy, God is crying.

Seeing this, everyone started clapping for him. Meanwhile, Dilip was thinking that the scene should end quickly and his dialogue should come, so that he could move and say something. Dilip told this story during a conversation with Mashable India.

The string of my pyjama broke, but I still completed the play

Once he was performing a play. During the play he had to change his costume. As soon as he came on stage wearing churidar pyjamas and kurta, the string of his pyjamas broke. As soon as he realized this, he extended his hands forward and supported himself with his pyjamas and completed his play.

There is also a phase of doing 9 to 9 jobs

There was a phase in Dilip's life from 1985 to 1990 when he had to go to the shop from 9 to 9 and follow a typical routine. Actually, he used to run a travel agency shop in partnership. He did this work for about 5 years. After working for 5 years, Dilip decided that he was not made for this. Now he would not be able to do this, but before leaving this job, he discussed it with his wife.

Dilip told his wife- I want to act, but that line is very insecure, you may or may not get work. When his wife heard the whole thing, she said- We don't want to become millionaires. We can survive with a little. Do whatever you want to do. Hearing this from his wife, Dilip's courage grew. He left that job and set out to make a career in acting.

Let's know what Dilip Joshi's co-actors have to say about him..

Big career lesson learned from Dilip Joshi

Actor Mandar Chandwadkar, who plays the character of Atmaram Tukaram Bhide in 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', said- When I joined this show in 2008, I was his fan. I became his fan after seeing his acting in one of his old shows. Not only this, when he told about the process of getting this role, my respect for him increased even more. Mandar says- I learned a lot from him, but the biggest thing I learned is that, 'Everyone is an actor, there are very few reactors.'

It is important to be a good reactor because when you react well to someone's dialogue, it makes the other person's scene even better. Suppose, a co-actor gives a punch line and you do not react, then the whole scene gets spoiled. Along with being a good actor, it is also important to be a good reactor.

He doesn't make any scene better just for himself, he always ensures that the scene of the entire team is good. One thing that everyone said about Dilip is that he is never excited about his birthday. He only likes to spend time with his family or go for darshan somewhere. If coincidentally there is a shoot on that day, then he comes to the set for the shoot. Mandar said that he is like an open book, his personality is very simple.

In 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma', actress Disha Vakani was seen in the role of Jethalal's wife Dayaben.

Actor Dayashankar Pandey said- I am jealous of Dilip Joshi…

Actor Dayashankar Pandey, who plays the role of police Chalu Pandey in 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', talked about Dilip Joshi. He said that I often feel jealous of Dilip Joshi, because many times when an actor is in an off mood, one or the other of your scenes gets spoiled, but this is not the case with him, whatever his mood is, it does not affect his work. He is as active about his work today as he was on the first day.

Dilip Joshi is a one take artist

Actor Kush Shah, who plays the role of Doctor Hathi's son in 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', said that he considers Dilip Joshi as his mentor. He does not consider his birthday to be very special, but treats it like any other normal day. When Kush was asked what he has learnt from Dilip? Kush says that he has learnt both humour and sense of humour from Dilip. He has learnt not only to joke but also to take the joke on himself. Dilip Joshi has become very spiritual, despite being fond of food, he does not eat after evening.

Dilip Joshi had shared this picture on his social media account.

Kush has been watching his plays since childhood. Let us tell you that Dilip is a big name in Gujarati theatres. We are inspired by him every day. The thing about him that makes him very special is that during shooting, there is a very rare chance when he takes a retake. In his case, retakes happen only when the artist opposite him takes a retake.

He won everyone's heart by playing the role of an old man in 'Sar Aankhon Par'

'Sar Aankhon Par' was released in 1999. Asha Parekh was also in this film. This was the last film of the actress, because after this Asha Parekh left acting. In 'Sar Aankhon Par', Dilip Joshi danced with Asha Parekh as an 'old man' and won everyone's heart. Apart from him, there were 20 actors in this film including Shahrukh Khan, Shammi Kapoor, Moushumi Chatterjee, Divya Dutta, Gulshan Grover, Farida Jalal and Ayesha Jhulka.
