Neelam Kothari has recently talked about her first marriage and divorce. She said that after marriage, she was asked to change her name, give up non-veg food and wear Indian clothes.

Neelam said, 'I was asked to wear Indian clothes, non-veg and also to give up alcohol. I agreed with everything. I was also asked to change my name and I did. A lot of people do this. But, should my identity be changed? This is something I did not agree with. I had reached a stage where I started questioning myself how can I give permission for this.

Neelam did her first marriage in 2000

Neelam married UK based businessman Rishi Sethia in 2000. However, they divorced shortly after. Then in 2011 she married Sameer Soni. In 2013, they adopted a daughter, Ahana.

When the daughter came to know that Neelam was divorced

Neelam further said, 'One day I came back from work and Ahana was with her friends. Usually Ahana was always jumping, playing and shouting. But she was very silent that day. Ahana came to me and said- Momma, you never told me that you are divorced.

I almost died after hearing this. I became completely silent. I had no words.

I asked Ahana how did you come to know about all this? Told him- You are a celebrity. This is why my friends and I were Googling you. The first thing that came up was that you are divorced. You have had another marriage.

Neelam said that she did not want her daughter to know about her first marriage like this.
