Nana Patekar was shocked by his son's death: He said- 'I used to smoke 60 cigarettes a day, people would not sit in my car because of the smell'

Veteran actor Nana Patekar recently talked about his personal life in an interview. He told that he became addicted to cigarettes when his son died. Nana told that his elder son was ill ever since he was born. His name was Durvasa and he died at the age of two and a half years.

It took a long time for Nana to recover from the grief of his son's death.

Nana used to smoke 60 cigarettes a day

Nana said, 'He had a problem in one eye which we were not aware of. When I came to know, I felt very bad, I thought what people would think about Nana's son. I did not think then what my son must be going through and what he must be going through. I was just thinking what people would think about my son.'

Nana said that he was deeply shocked when his son died. Nana said, 'At that time I used to smoke 60 cigarettes a day, I used to smoke even while bathing but this was a very bad thing. No one could even sit in my car because of the smell of cigarettes. I did not drink alcohol but I used to smoke a lot.'

I quit smoking because of my sister

Nana further said, 'I quit smoking only because of my sister. Actually, one of her sons had also died. One day she saw me coughing after smoking and she said, 'What else do you want to see happen now?' After hearing this, I quit smoking.

Nana married Neel, who was an officer in a bank, at the age of 27. After this, both became parents of two sons. After the death of his elder son Durvasa, Nana became the father of son Malhar.

Talking about the film career of 73-year-old Nana, he has worked in many films including Parinda, Prahar, Tiranga, Krantiveer, Khamoshi The Musical.

He has won three National Awards so far. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to cinema.
