As soon as the trailer of the film Shaitan, starring experienced actors like Ajay Devgan and R Madhavan, was released, it was expected that the film would definitely have power. The trailer, which took us into a different scary world of black magic, vashikaran and superstition, had garnered a lot of praise on social media, but whether this film could live up to the expectations of the audience or not, let us know in this review.
The length of the film is 2 hours 12 minutes. Dainik Bhaskar has given the film a 3 out of 5 star rating.
What is the story of the film?
It is shown in the film Shaitan that Kabir (Ajay Devgan) is living a happy life in his family with his wife Jyoti (Jyotika), daughter Janvi (Janki Bodiwala) and son Dhruv (Angad Raj). But suddenly there is an earthquake in their life. One day they plan to go to their farmhouse for a holiday, on the way they meet Vanraj (R Madhavan) at a dhaba. Vanraj appears to be a simple and trustworthy person and manages to win the trust of Kabir's family.
This is where the troubles for Kabir and his family begin. Vanraj takes Jhanvi under his control by feeding her a special kind of laddu. Not only this, he also forcefully enters Kabir's farmhouse. Now Vanraj starts doing murderous acts with Jaanvi with the help of black magic. Whether Kabir is able to save his daughter from the elusive clutches of Vanraj or not, the climax of the film's story turns in this direction.
How is the acting of the star cast?
R Madhavan is the biggest surprising element of this film, seeing him in such a character is a different experience. Madhavan has carried the entire film on his shoulders. Ajay Devgan's fans will be a little disappointed because he has not got as strong a role as Madhavan, yet he has done justice to his role.
Jyotika, who is seen in the film after a long time, is also doing well. But after Madhavan, the one who has made the biggest impact is Janaki Bodiwala who plays the role of Ajay's daughter. His performance will shock the audience.
How is the direction?
Directed by Vikas Bahl, this film is a remake of the Gujarati psychological thriller film 'Vash' released in 2023, which was highly appreciated. Vikas Bahl's direction is good, but there are shortcomings in the screenplay due to which the film failed to do as much as was expected from it.
However, the director has been successful in using the actors in the film in the best possible way. The background music is chilling, while Sudhakar Reddy and Ekanthi's cinematography keeps the thrill of the film intact.
Final Verdict, watch or not?
The beginning of the film is very exciting and Madhavan's performance will surprise the audience. However, the second half is weak, especially the climax of the film may seem light and some scenes appear childish. The film has an interesting angle of black magic and Vashikaran and for those who are fond of horror films, this film can definitely be a one time watch.
