Monsoon normal this year; Good rains in 23 states including Maharashtra: Skymet | leader


New Delhi; News Agency: This year, monsoon will remain normal in the country. Meteorological organization Skymet has predicted that there will be average rainfall in the four months from June to September. The monsoon season will be 102 percent (5 percent plus-minus margin), it said. Average rainfall is considered to mean good rainfall. Rainfall between 96 and 104 percent is considered average or satisfactory by the Meteorological Department. Such rainfall is considered good for crops as well as other water needs. Skymet has said that there will be good rain in 23 states including Maharashtra. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman And it also includes the states of Diu, Lakshadweep and Union Territories. However, Skymet has predicted that four states including Bihar will receive less rainfall in this year's monsoon. It includes Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Rainfall in these states will be low between July and August; But after that, the rain conditions will be normal here, said Skymet.

El Nino is rapidly changing to La Lina. This is a good sign. Monsoon will be good as El Nino turns into La Nina. Initially, however, the residual effect of El Nino may have little effect. In the second phase, however, there will be good rains.
Skymet has released its monsoon forecast for the second time this year. Earlier, Skymet had predicted normal monsoon on January 12, 2024 as well.
