Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Mithun Chakraborty this year. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made its official announcement on Monday (September 30). Mithun will be honored at the 70th National Film Awards Ceremony on October 8.
Mithun started his film career in 1976 with Mrigaya. He won the National Award in his very first film. He got recognition from Disco Dancer in 1982.

Did more than 350 films, won 3 National Awards
Mithun Chakraborty was born on 16 June 1950 in Kolkata. His real name is Gaurang Chakraborty. Mithun started his acting career with the 1976 art film Mrigaya. He received his first National Award for this film. Mithun has received 3 National Awards in his career. He received the second National Award for the 1993 film Tahader Katha, while the third National Award was for the 1996 film Swami Vivekananda.
In an acting career spanning nearly 4 decades, Mithun has worked in more than 350 films in many languages like Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia and Bhojpuri.
Mithun was one of the highly paid actors
Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Padma Shri in January 2024. Mithun is counted among the great actors in the history of Indian cinema. Mithun is the only actor who was honored with the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film.
Mithun was one of the highest paid actors of India between the 80-90s. Mithun Chakraborty's last released Hindi film was 2022's The Kashmir Files. Apart from this, he also appeared in Bengali films Prajapati and Kabuliwala.
Mithun's name is recorded in Limca Book
Mithun Chakraborty had 19 films released in the year 1989, in which he was seen as a lead actor. This record name of his is recorded in the Limca Book of Records. It has been almost 35 years since this happened, but till date no actor has been able to break this record. The 1982 film Disco Dancer is the first film of Hindi cinema to earn Rs 100 crore.
Waheeda Rehman had received this honor last year
In the year 2023, veteran actress Waheeda Rehman was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She is the 8th woman to receive this award. Before her, Devika Rani, Ruby Meyers, Kanan Devi, Durga Khote, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Asha Parekh have received this award.
