Met Gala | Palestinian supporters set off smoke bombs outside Met Gala, several arrested









Leaders Online Desk: The world's biggest mega fashion event Met Gala (Met Gala) started from May 6. The Met Gala is organized at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, USA. Big celebrities from India and the world have participated in this fashion event. This time the theme of Met Gala 2024 is 'The Garden of Time: An Ode to Art and Eternity'.

Meanwhile, Palestinian supporters protested outside the 'Met Gala' event venue. Demonstrators held up banners reading “Mets don't sing while Gaza is bombed”. Also, pro-Palestine protesters attempted to disrupt the Met Gala event with smoke bombs. They also removed additional barricades along the event route. Due to this many people were arrested.

Demonstrations took place Monday night at major US universities and colleges in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. More than 2,400 protesters have been arrested since mid-April.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has confirmed the operation. But exactly how many people were detained on Monday night? It is not mentioned.

According to NBC News, the protestors appeared to be from Hunter College, a public university in New York City. According to the New York Times, a group of protesters took to the streets in Central Park yesterday evening with banners reading “No celebration without liberation.” Meanwhile, a large group of protesters marched down the city's Fifth Avenue. Many of them carried Palestinian flags. That “Gaza! Gaza!” Such announcements were being made.

New York police have set up barricades in various areas surrounding the Met Gala event. As celebrities started arriving at the Met Gala around 6.30pm on Monday, the police started arresting the protesters.
