The Malayalam film industry has been surrounded by controversies for a long time. Many Malayalam actresses and artists have accused senior actors of sexual harassment. The Hema Committee has been formed to investigate this matter, after which such cases related to the industry are constantly being exposed. After the formation of the committee, Malayalam actress Meenu Munir has now revealed the incident of verbal and physical abuse by senior actors.
Actress Meenu Munir posted the names and photos of the exploiting actors on her Facebook page and wrote, I am writing this to expose the incidents of verbal and physical abuse that happened to me, in which actors Mukesh, Maniyan Pillu Raju, Idavela Babu, Jayasurya, Advocate Chandrasekaran, Production Controller Novel and Vichu are involved. While working on a project in 2013, these people verbally and physically abused me. I tried to cooperate and work continuously, but then it became unbearable. Then I was forcibly pressured to leave the Malayalam film industry and shift to Chennai.
Further, the actress wrote, I had raised my voice against this exploitation in an article titled Meenu left Malayalam industry for unable to corporate and adjust. I now demand justice for the exploitation that happened to me and the trauma I suffered. I request you for help for the disgusting action of these people.
Why is Malayalam film industry in controversy?
Let us tell you that for the past several years, many such incidents related to regional cinema have been coming to the fore, in which female artists have revealed that many big filmmakers have made objectionable demands from them in exchange for giving work in films. At the same time, some female artists have told that they have been sexually exploited during the shooting. In view of the increasing cases, a 3-member committee was formed in 2019 under the chairmanship of retired Justice Hema, which was closely monitoring such cases. On August 19, about 4 years after the formation of the committee, the Hema Committee has submitted a 233-page report to the Kerala government, in which exploitation by many big artists has come to the fore. As soon as the report came, many actresses are revealing the exploitation that happened to them.
