What is MCOCA?
The Maharashtra government enacted MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act) in 1999. Its objective was to eliminate organized and underworld crime. This law is applicable in Maharashtra and Delhi. Under this, cases like criminals related to the underworld, illegal activities including extortion through which money is made on a large scale, etc. are included.

After the imposition of MCOCA, the accused do not get bail easily. Under MCOCA, the police gets 180 days to file a charge sheet, whereas under the provisions of IPC, this time limit is only 60 to 90 days. Under MCOCA, police remand of the accused can be up to 30 days, whereas under IPC it is a maximum of 15 days.

This is how MCOCA looks on someone
Before imposing MCOCA against anyone, the police has to take approval from the Additional Commissioner of Police. In this, a case will be registered against an accused only if he has been involved in at least two organized crimes during the last 10 years.

Organized crime must involve at least two people. Apart from this, charge sheet should have been filed against the accused after the FIR. If the police does not file the charge sheet within 180 days, the accused can get bail. The maximum punishment under the MCOCA law is death. There is a provision for a minimum jail sentence of five years.

Lawrence had threatened Salman in March 2023
Salman Khan has always been the target of Lawrence Bishwoi gang. In March 2023, Salman's security was increased after receiving a threat from Lawrence. Since then, he was given Y+ category security by the Maharashtra government.

NIA had said that Khan was on top of the list of 10 people whom jailed gangster Lawrence had threatened to kill. The community is angry over the blackbuck hunting incident that took place in 1998, citing which Lawrence had threatened to kill Salman in a TV interview.

Keeping in view the security of Salman, 11 soldiers stay with him all the time, this also includes one or two commandos and 2 PSOs. There are always two vehicles to escort Salman's vehicle in front and behind. Along with this, Salman's car is also completely bullet proof.
