Bhopal/Mumbai, News Agency : Maharashtra State Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif has recently announced the establishment of Skin Acceptance Centers in every district. On the other hand, there is a huge lack of awareness in society about skin donation. Skin donation can save someone's life, it can also make their life easier. Skin donation has become a hot topic in recent times due to increasing accidents.
Look at this incident in Bhopal. Chitransh (aged 7) was playing on the roof swinging an iron rod in the air. The high tension wire touched this salai and Chitransh was severely burnt. The image was 60 percent burnt. His wounds were first grafted using his own skin; But as he was too burnt, his skin was not good enough for grafting. Chitransh's father then donated the skin. The skin of one of his legs was used for grafting on pictorial wounds.
Bacteria enter the body through the skin destroyed by the burn and cause infection. It can even cause death to the patient. Donation of skin is therefore also donation of life.
The number of skin banks that perform skin collection is very low in India. It is important here that skin can be donated from a living person only where there are no skin banks.
The skin has two layers. The top layer is removed for transplantation. In liver or kidney transplant patient and donor tissues are matched but in skin transplant this is not required, this is also important here!
Who can donate skin?
The skin of a dead person can be donated.
Skin donation is possible up to 6 to 8 hours after death.
The person donating skin should be above 18 years of age.
The skin donor should not have skin diseases, HIV, hepatitis B and C.
In places where there is no skin bank, even a living person can donate skin.
Numbers speak
10 lakh people fall victim to burn incidents every year in India.
27 skin banks have been started in India so far.
At 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, the skin is treated with the chemical glycerol for 45 days in the skin bank.
Skin can be kept ready for use in a skin bank for up to 5 years.
Even a 100 year old person can donate skin.
