Manisha Koirala played the character of Shaila Banu in the 1995 film Bombay. Recently during an interview he shared an anecdote related to this character. Manisha said that initially she had a lot of doubts about playing this character. Many people were telling her that she might get typecast by playing the role of a mother. However, a piece of advice changed his perspective and he decided to take up this role.

Speaking to ANI, Manisha Koirala said, 'When I was offered the film Bombay, I was a little naive. People around me were telling me not to take this role, because in it I had to play the role of a mother of two children. They were afraid that if I played the role of a mother, I would not get heroine roles.

Manisha said, 'During this time, cinematographer Ashok Mehta advised me to know about Mani Ratnam's work and not to miss this big opportunity at any cost, because working with Mani Ratnam could prove to be a great opportunity.

Manisha Koirala said, 'When I met Mani sir, his understanding, humility and creative style motivated me a lot. After this, I also liked the message of the film, which was about unity and living together like a family. During the look test, I understood that he was creating something special and different.

Speaking to India Today, Manisha said, 'Learned a lot by working with Mani sir. His way of taking shots and his experiments are quite different. He is a master. And I thank Ashok ji, who showed me the right path by scolding me.
