The film Bombay released in 1995 was a huge hit. Directed by Mani Ratnam, this film had Manisha Koirala and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles. However, before Arvind, this role was to be given to South star Chiyaan Vikram. He had also auditioned for the film, however, when he was asked to act in front of a closed camera, he flatly refused. Due to this mistake, Chiyaan Vikram was not cast in the film, for which he kept crying for 2 months.

Recently, during a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Chiyaan Vikram was asked if he had rejected Mani Ratnam's film Bombay. To this the actor said, No, I did not leave that film. I made a mistake. They called me for audition, but they did not have a video camera.

They only had a still camera. Then they told me to act. Look at the girl, she is running away from there. But I was frozen. They told me, don't stop, keep continuing, but I was very confused. They did not have a camera. It was not a video camera, so why would I act. Then later I understood that if I moved, they would get a blurred image.

After this bad experience, Chiyaan Vikram did not get that film, which he regretted a lot. On this he said, it was my dream to work with Mani Ratnam sir. I was ready to retire after that film. I did not want anything after that film. I was confirmed for that film. Manisha Koirala's shoot was in the morning and mine was in the evening, but I spoiled everything. I would wake up for two months and cry every day that I lost the film. A big man was crying for two months. It became a pan India cult.

Even though Vikram could not work under Mani Ratnam's direction in the 1995 film Bombay, he got this opportunity in the year 2010. Vikram did his directorial film Raavan, which was a superhit. After this, he has appeared in Mani Ratnam's directorial films Ponniyin Selvan-1 and Ponniyin Selvan 2.
