In an interview given to Masala magazine, Malaika said that she saw a lot of ups and downs in her childhood because her parents got divorced. Malaika was 11 years old at the time of her parents' separation. Her sister Amrita was only 6 years old.
On Christmas in 2022, Malaika shared a photo with her mother Joyce, father Anil Arora and sister Amrita.
Malaika had said about her parents' separation, “Even after the divorce of my parents, my and my sister's childhood was good but it was not easy. That time was full of ups and downs. Especially financially it was very difficult.”
We have faced a lot of financial problems
Malaika further said, during that time I saw my mother from a different perspective. She was completely independent. She raised us on her own. It was from her that I learnt to be independent and live life on my own terms. During that time, I also learnt that I will have to work for myself till my death. I was not born with a silver spoon and neither did we have a lot of money. We grew up in a working class environment, so it was important for me to stand on my own feet and secure myself financially. Even when I got married, I did not stop working and did not depend on my husband's money for my needs.
