In director Milan Luthria's film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai', Emraan Hashmi played the role of Shoaib Khan, inspired by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. This is one of the successful films of Emraan's career. However, Mahesh Bhatt did not want Emraan to work in this film. He had told Emraan that if he did this film, his career would end. He also had a problem with the climax of the film, but when the film became successful, Mahesh Bhatt also apologized to the film's director Milan Luthria.
During a recent interview, Emraan Hashmi said- Director Milan Luthria had first narrated the story of the film to Mahesh Bhatt. He had some doubts about the character of Shoaib Khan. He thought that this is a character which will change my image. It is generally seen that it is not easy to get out of the grey shade character in films.
Emraan Hashmi further says, 'Bhatt sahab said that Shoaib Khan's character is such that if you do it, your career will be over. He also had a problem with the climax of the film. In which it is shown that the hero of the film i.e. Ajay Devgan dies and the villain i.e. Emraan Hashmi is shown as if he will now rule Mumbai. He believed that the audience will not accept such a climax.'
Emraan Hashmi said- When the film was released, the audience liked the character of Shoaib Khan. The climax of the film was also accepted by the audience. Then Mahesh Bhatt apologized to director Milan Luthria. He called and said that sorry I was wrong.
In the film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai', Ajay Devgan played the character of Sultan Mirza inspired by Haji Mastan. Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai and Randeep Hooda also played important roles in this film. The sequel of this film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara' was released in 2013. Akshay Kumar played the role of Shoaib Khan in it.
