Global instability is increasing day by day. The war between Russia and Ukraine does not stop; The Israel-Palestine war has begun. This war is likely to spread to the entire Gulf. As far as India is concerned, the situation is that threats from China and Pakistan will never go away in the future. In such a situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to make the country completely axiomatic in the defense sector. The country has achieved considerable progress in the defense sector during the last ten years of the Modi government. However, we still have a long way to go.
Although there has been a decline in terrorist attacks by Pakistan during the 'Raloa' government, there is no telling when the situation on the western border will worsen. China's offensive on the eastern border continues. Galwan incident has taught India a great lesson. Most of its neighbors are threatened by an expansionist China. In that case, India will have to be more alert. Over the past few decades, India has spent most of its foreign exchange on the purchase of defense equipment. After the Modi government came to power, this government left the resolve of a self-reliant India and made a commitment to become self-sufficient in the defense sector as well and by making tireless efforts in this regard, the country has succeeded in achieving axioms in many respects.
The dimensions of defense and security are changing rapidly. In that case it is necessary to be prepared to face any situation. Defense infrastructure development is the first step for this. Defense sector challenges in a continental country like India are of different nature. While modernizing the army, it is equally important to combine traditional methods. In recent years, modern fighter jets like Rafale have entered the fleet of the army. On the other hand, the Tejas aircraft developed in the country has increased the strength of the Air Force. So, the warships like INS Vikrant built in the country have strengthened the navy.
Morale must be high to defeat the enemy. After the terrorist attacks in Uri and Pulwama, the Modi government had given full freedom to the army to conduct surgical strikes. Pakistan has not yet recovered from that shock. The nation will never forget the bravery of our soldiers in Galwan Valley. The creation of the post of 'Chief of Defense Staff' for the unified control of the army, and the establishment of the 'War of Memorial' to commemorate the heroes who showed unparalleled bravery in the war are also important events of the Modi government.
Many schemes have been undertaken for self-reliance in the defense sector. Defense Industrial Corridors have been established in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Private sector is getting involved in manufacturing of defense products. The government's policy is to encourage domestic defense material manufacturers. Our country India, which was once the leader in terms of import of defense materials, today is looking to break the ground in terms of exports. By 2028-29, the government has set a target to increase the export of defense materials to Rs 50 thousand crores. During the interim budget presented in Parliament last February, an allocation of 75 billion dollars was made for the defense sector. China's provision for defense sector is more than three times as compared to India. China had allocated 222 billion dollars in the previous year. China's provision has doubled in the last 8-9 years. China's move of hand in hand with Pakistan to appease India has become known to the whole world. In that case we have to be very careful. Keeping in view the threat from Sino-Pakistan, India has no choice but to increase the provision for the defense sector every year. However, while doing so, emphasis has to be placed on self-reliance. If we keep in mind the above challenges, we can see how necessary and important the decisions taken by the Modi government in the defense sector are.
