Leader Online Desk: The 35-year long political relationship between senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and her son Varun Gandhi in Pilibhit came to an end on Wednesday, March 27. For the first time since 1989, neither of them filed their candidature from Pilibhit. BJP has canceled Varun Gandhi's ticket and nominated UP Cabinet Minister Jitin Prasad. Varun Gandhi has shared an emotional letter on X handle after ending his political relationship with Pilibhit.
In his letter, Varun Gandhi mentioned, “I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve the great people of Pilibhit over the years. The ideals, simplicity and kindness found here have played a major role in my upbringing and development not only as an MP but also as a person. Now my tenure as MP for Pilibhit is coming to an end; But my relationship with Pilibhit will not end till my last breath.. I am with you no matter what the cost and will always be.”
Varun Gandhi, grandson of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and son of Sanjay Gandhi, held the post of National General Secretary of BJP in 2009-10. In this year's Lok Sabha elections, BJP has rejected him as a candidate from Pilibhit constituency. Jitin Prasad has been nominated instead. Taru Varun Gandhi's mother and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi announced her candidacy from Sultanpur constituency. There is talk that the party may give Varun a big post in the organization. Even after being denied ticket, Varun has not left the BJP nor has he given any indication. Due to this, there is also talk that BJP will give him candidature from other constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
