Leaders Online Desk : Lok Sabha Elections 2024 : BJP has formed an alliance with Pattali Makkal Kachi (PMK) in Tamil Nadu in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections. Seats have been distributed between both the parties. Dr. S. Ramdas Ambumani-led PMK will field its candidates on 10 seats in the state. Political analysts believe that this alliance will help the BJP to strengthen its presence in South India.
BJP state president K Annamalai and PMK founder Ramdas Ambumani signed the agreement at their Thilapuram residence. At this time Dr. S Ramdas said that, 'We have joined the NDA to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister again in the interest of the country. The people of Tamil Nadu expect change and we are determined to deliver it. BJP's Annamalai said, 'PMK has taken a big decision to help NDA win 400 seats. His joining the BJP-led NDA has changed the political landscape in Tamil Nadu. I thank him for that. Our aim is to bring about change in Tamil Nadu. NDA will get big victory in 2024 general elections. Along with this, there will be a big political change in the state in 2026. What is the strength of PMK?
The PMK is a party dominated by the Vanniyar community and has considerable influence in the northern districts of the state such as Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Thiruvalluvar etc. PMK had won 5 seats in the last Tamil Nadu assembly elections. At the same time, the party was ranked fourth in the state with 3.8 percent votes. In 2014, PMK contested the Lok Sabha elections with BJP. Party candidate Ambumani Ramdas won from Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency.

On March 18, BJP and PMK announced an alliance. After that, the seat sharing between the two parties was sealed on March 19. According to which 10 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu have gone to PMK. It is reported that PMK founder Ramdas will announce his candidates on Wednesday (20th). Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a public meeting in Salem on Tuesday. PMK leader Dr. S. Ramdas Anbumani will participate in the Prime Minister's speech.
BJP will contest 29 seats in Tamil Nadu
PMK president Ramdas said, 'PMK has been a part of NDA in Delhi for the past ten years. But now we have decided to join NDA directly. PMK has formed an alliance with BJP in Tamil Nadu and the seat sharing has been decided. BJP will contest in 29 out of 39 seats in the state and PMK will enter the fray with 10 seats.'
Growing scope of NDA in South (Lok Sabha Elections 2024)
The constituent parties of the NDA are raising the slogan of winning 400 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP is busy expanding the alliance to implement this declaration. Part of this strategy is the BJP taking the NDA into South India. Accordingly, BJP has formed an alliance with Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, an agreement has already been signed with JDS. Now in Tamil Nadu, the party has expanded the NDA by partnering with the PMK. Similarly, they are looking for allies in Telangana and Kerala.
