Lok Sabha Election 2024: Voting for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha begins









Leaders Online Desk: Voting has started today (May 25) in 58 seats in 7 states and 1 union territory (Jammu and Kashmir) under the sixth phase of Lok Sabha. Anantnag-Rajouri constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir were going to vote in the third phase; But as it has been postponed, voting is taking place here in the sixth phase. Mehbooba Mufti is the candidate here.

In the 2019 elections, BJP had won maximum 40 of these 58 seats. BSP won 4 seats, BJD 4 seats, Samajwadi Party 1 seat, JDU 3 seats, Trinamool 3 seats, LJP 1 seat, AJSU 1 seat. Congress and 'AAP' could not even open accounts in these constituencies.

Numbers speak

  • In the 6th phase, 889 candidates are in the fray.
  • There are 797 male and 92 female candidates. Naveen Jindal, the BJP candidate from Kurukshetra constituency in Haryana, is the richest candidate in this phase with a net worth of Rs 1,241 crore.
  • Out of 543 constituencies till the fifth phase
  • Voting has been done in 429 seats.
  • Polling in total 487 seats will be completed by May 25. In the 7th and final phase, 56 seats will be polled.
  • Criminal cases have been registered against 183 candidates.
  • 39 percent candidates are millionaires. BJP has the most 48 candidates in it.

  • Bansuri, daughter of late leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, is contesting the election from New Delhi for the first time. He is pitted against Somnath Bharti, a three-time MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party.
  • BJP's two-time MP Manoj Tiwari is facing Kanhaiya Kumar of Congress from North Delhi. Actor Raj Babbar is the Congress candidate from Gurugram in Haryana.
  • Maneka Gandhi is a BJP candidate from Sultanpur. The place of Puri in Odisha is considered to be the stronghold of Biju Janata Dal. BJP's Sambit Patra is contesting against BJD's Arup Patnaik (former senior police officer).
