Lok Sabha Election 2024 : Bus carrying EVM on fire in Madhya Pradesh; The officers jumped out of the burning bus









Leader Online Desk: A bus carrying EVMs and election officials caught fire in Madhya Pradesh's Baitul district. The incident took place when the bus was on its way to Baitul district headquarters carrying polling materials and staff from six polling stations. In this, some EVMs were damaged and the officers along with the driver jumped from the burning bus to save their lives.

The accident took place between Bisnoor and Pauni Goula villages under Saikheda police station limits. Police officers reached the spot on getting information about this. Fire tenders were called from Baitul, Multai and Aathner. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the bus and took out the voting materials kept inside. Then another bus was arranged to bring polling staff and EVM-VVPAT machines. All the poll workers are safe in this accident.

Baitul District Collector Narendra Suryavanshi told PTI that the bus caught fire due to a spark, polling staff and the bus driver were not injured. In this fire, the EVMs of four polling stations namely Booth No. 275, 276, 277, 278, 279 and 280 have been damaged. There were six EVMs and VVPATs in the bus, out of which four EVMs were burnt. He said that two are safe. Asked if this will affect the counting of votes in the EVMs, the Collector said that he would send his report to the Election Commission and the Election Commission would take a decision on re-polling at these booths.
