Five-year-old Gamini, one of the second cheetahs brought to India, gave birth to five cubs today. Union Forest Minister Bhupendra Singh said in his post that Gamini, a female cheetah brought from Tswalu Kalahari Reserve in South Africa, gave birth to 5 cubs today. This brings the number of cubs born in India to 13. Kudos to all, especially the team of forest officers, veterinarians and field staff who ensured the environment for the cheetahs, which resulted in successful mating and birth of cubs, he added in his post.
Gamini is among the second lot of leopards brought to India from South Africa. This is the fourth cheetah genus on Indian soil. Earlier, the female Cheetah Jwala gave birth to a total of seven cubs twice, while on January 3, the female Asha gave birth to three cubs. The total number of cheetahs including cubs in Kuno National Park is 26.
