A female doctor was brutalised, gang-raped and then murdered at Kolkata's RG Medical College and Hospital. After the case came to light, thousands of people are protesting on the streets demanding justice, while there is anger among the public across the country. Recently, many Bollywood celebs including Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana had expressed their anger on this matter, and now many more people including Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor have joined them.
Kareena Kapoor has compared this case to the Nirbhaya case that happened 12 years ago on social media. She has written in a post, even after 12 years, the story is the same and the protest is the same. But we are still waiting for change.
Preity Zinta wrote emotionally, we are the 5th largest economy of this world. In the elections, 66 percent of the people including men and women voted, on which it is being estimated that next year women voters will be more than men. Now the time has come that the safety of women should be the first priority of the government. It is very heartbreaking and painful to see that the face of the accused of rape is covered at the time of arrest, while the face and name of the victim is leaked everywhere in the media. The pace of justice is never fast, punishment is never given, people are never held accountable.
Preity Zinta further wrote, many women lose their dignity and life, people will not care about it until it happens to you. This is the time that all women stand together and make women's safety a political issue. At this time, the in-charge who mishandles sexual violence cases should not be transferred, but their jobs should be taken away. As a woman, I want to apologize to Nirbhaya and Mamta and every girl who was wronged. I am sorry that in the past I could not fight for you with all my might. But now enough is enough. No one is safe, until everyone is safe.
Hrithik Roshan wrote on the social media platform X, We need to build a society where everyone feels safe. But it will take decades. Hopefully this will happen by sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generation will be better. We will meet there. For now, justice will be that such atrocities are strictly stopped. The only way to do this is to give severe punishment to the accused so that such criminals get scared. This is what we need. I stand with the victim's family and demand justice for their daughter and also stand with the doctors who were attacked.
