Karan Johar spoke in a recent interview about the days when his father Yash Johar's 5 consecutive films flopped. Karan's father Yash had produced films like 'Dostana', 'Agneepath', 'Duplicate' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in his career.

A lot had to be sold to return the money of the financiers
In an interview to Faye D'Souza, Karan said, 'After 'Dostana' released in 1980, 5 consecutive films of Papa flopped. When the first film flopped, mother sold Nani's flat to return the money to the financiers.
When the second film flopped, she sold her jewellery. Even Papa had to sell some of his property in Delhi.'
grew up in a middle class family
Even though Karan's father was a producer, the actor said that he does not belong to a rich family. The actor said that he grew up in a middle and upper-middle class family.
He studied in a good school and had a decent car but did not have enough money to travel abroad.

'I earned the money through hard work'
On this occasion, Karan also told that there was a time when he used to work very hard. The actor said, 'I am lucky that both my films (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham) were hits as a director. After my father's death, I took over Dharma Productions.
I feel very happy that I was able to fulfill my father's dream. For this, I worked for 18 hours a day for many days. I used to sleep only for 5 hours so that I could earn as much money as possible.

'Kill' earned 1.35 crores on the first day
On the work front, Karan's last film as a director was 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani'. The film 'Kill' made under Karan's banner was released this Friday.
It collected Rs 1.35 crore on the first day. Karan's next film 'Bad News' will be released on July 19.
