When she was just three months old, she underwent open heart surgery.
During the conversation, Karan also shared about career pressures, expectations from new projects and interest in superhero characters. Read some key excerpts from the conversation:
Your film is going to premiere on TV on Independence Day. How excited are you about this?
I am very happy. It is very special for me to be a part of this film, and we are very lucky that this film became so successful. This film is connected to the heart of every Indian, so people always remember it. It is very special. The film is coming today i.e. on 15th August on Star Gold. I request everyone to definitely watch it.
Do you have any special memories from your childhood that are related to Independence Day, like watching movies?
In childhood, we used to be very excited about every patriotic movie. Even if we had seen the movie before, we would still watch it. I especially like watching the same movies again and again, because every time I feel something new. Some people don't like watching movies again and again, but I like watching the same movies again and again. This time I will watch 'Fighter'.
What changes did the film 'Fighter' bring in your life? What difference did this film make in your career?
I have received a lot of praise for this film, and people have seen my role in a different way. This is another milestone for my career. People said that they felt very connected to my role, and this makes me very proud. Many people also got emotional and shed tears while watching the film, which is a big deal for me. It is rare to see so much emotion in an action film, and I am very happy to know that people connected so much with my character.
The word 'fighter' holds a lot of significance. Has there ever been a moment when you faced a difficulty and overcame it?
Something or the other keeps happening. I mean, I am very lucky that nothing very bad happened in my life. But there was a time when we faced a very big problem with our daughter. That time was very difficult for us. My daughter had a serious health problem, and what she suffered during that time is hard to describe in words.
My daughter is a true fighter. She has a long scar on her chest that goes till her stomach. Whatever we think and achieve in our lives is nothing compared to her. Whatever she and her mother (Bipasha Basu) have gone through, it cannot be compared. Nothing like this has happened in my life, I am very lucky. My daughter has proved that she is a true fighter.
Have you ever felt pressured in choosing a character, because people's expectations increase once your name is associated with it?
When I choose a character, I always make sure that I can play it to the fullest. It is a challenge for me, but I try to do it. It is important for me to do something new and different.
Have you ever turned down projects that made you feel like you were repeating yourself?
Yes, I try not to do the same thing that I have done before. But it often happens that when you are good at something, the same work comes to you again and again. But it is important for me to do something new every time, so that I do not go into auto-pilot mode. If I keep doing the same thing, it will seem like I am working without thinking, and I do not accept this. I do not want to do a 9 to 5 job where every day is the same.
What kind of projects would you like to see yourself in next?
I am looking forward to good projects. Some projects are going to start soon, and I can't talk about them right now. But I am looking forward to projects that entertain as well as make people think.
Is there a particular concept or character you’re looking forward to?
I am very interested in superhero characters. I like the stories of 'Hanuman ji' very much, and I read about him. I think it would be great to play a character that teaches us that everything is present inside us.
