Actor Jitin Gulati left his job in the bank and entered acting from the world of modelling. The actor was liked for his role of a transgender in the web series 'Kala' and a gangster in 'Bombay Meri Jaan'. These days he is in the news for playing the role of Desi Ghoda in the Netflix series 'Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper'.

Recently Jitin Gulati came to Dainik Bhaskar's Mumbai office. During the conversation, he said that when people call him Desi Ghoda, it is a very special feeling. He also said that if he gets a chance, he would like to work in Rahul Dravid's biopic. Let's know what else Jitin Gulati said during the question-answer session…

Now, wherever you go, you must be famous by the name of Desi Horse?

When people call me Desi Ghoda, I feel very special on hearing it. I have played many characters before. But the way people are talking about this character is something new for me. Secondly, nowadays I am getting a lot of messages calling me Guruji.

After leaving the bank job, I worked as a part-time professor for some time. After watching this series, I get messages from many of my students saying that Sir, you did not teach me this. People are having fun by saying this. I would like to thank the makers of the series for this.

Has your look been different in all the characters you have played so far?

All the characters that I have played till date, have had different looks. Whether it was my first film 'Warning' in which I had a moustache. After that, I had a clean shaven look in 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story'. Many people recognize me from this film. After that, whatever characters I have played in 'Kaala', 'Bombay Meri Jaan', 'Inside Edge', they either had glasses or moustache, beard and long hair. After a long time, I have got such a role, which is like when I roam around on the road. That's why people recognize me by the character.

When you were given the narration for this series, what was your feeling about the character?

We had never seen this world. Treating comedy like a thriller was a new thing. Every character was written with great detail. Puneet Krishna ji had done complete research. He explained the entire process. The script was everything I had to prepare for. Every character has a different meaning. My character may be a Desi Ghoda, but if there is a problem, he also becomes a mouse.

What was the process of adapting yourself to the world of Desi Ghoda?

The shooting of 'Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper' and 'Kala' was going on simultaneously. The shooting of Kaala was going on in Kolkata and the shooting of Tribhuvan was going on in Noida. I had no problem with the language. I have worked in Noida, I know the accent of the people there. It was important for me that when I perform, it should not look dramatic. Puneet Krishna and Amrit Raj Gupta have presented human emotions in great detail.

Have you ever met someone like a Desi horse in real life? Did you do any research on your own?

I have not done any research on my own. All my research was through Puneet Sir. Such messages have definitely come after the show. Some people have mistaken it for a Desi Ghoda in real life.

On one hand you were doing 'Kaala' in which you had a different kind of character. On the other hand you were doing a different character in 'Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper'. How did you change yourself from one character to another at the same time?

You should prepare as much as you can beforehand. I was playing a transgender in 'Kala'. He has a journey. I had done research about it. When you reach a set, the world of that set absorbs you. There is no need to change yourself.

I feel that the characters I play are outside of me. Once K.K. Menon ji said that we have everyone from Ram to Ravan inside us. I might even have a serial killer inside me. I have never faced a situation in my life that could bring out that emotion. We have many characters inside us. There was a different energy and different people on the set of Kaala.

You have played such a good character in 'Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper', what kind of characters do you want to play in the future?

Although I like all kinds of characters. But I would like to do a biopic. I like living a person's life. Something will come that will be very different from me. I really want to do it.

Whose biopic would you like to work in?

I would like to work in Rahul Dravid's biopic.

Tell us about the initial phase of your career. What was the reaction of your parents when you told them about the acting profession?

I was born in Delhi. My father was in the Navy. He took early retirement. My mother was a teacher. I was a good student, so I got a job early. I never told them about acting. I came to Mumbai with the job. I left the job after one year and told my parents about it after three months. There was a lot of drama at home that day. One day my father said that do whatever you want to do.

After leaving the bank job, how was the journey when you fully entered acting?

So far in my journey, there has not been a time when one Friday changed everything. My first film 'Warning' did not work. After that I did not have work for one and a half years. I did a part-time job and kept looking for a good opportunity. Suddenly I got work in 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story'.

'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' must have created a different identity for you again?

Although the role in the film was not big, I got recognition for playing Dhoni's brother-in-law. I was excited about this film only because it was Dhoni's biopic and I was getting a chance to work under the direction of Neeraj Pandey.

What are the reactions of parents now?

They tell me to get married. I am very happy now. If I am at this stage today, it is because of their support. Family support is very important to work in this field.
