Jharkhand minister Alam in 'ED' custody in 37 crore seizure case











Leader Online Desk : Jharkhand minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam has been sent to ED custody for 6 days by the special PMLA court in Ranchi today (16) in connection with the seizure of Rs 37 crore.

What is the matter?

    • ED raids a flat in Ranchi in connection with alleged irregularities in rural development department in Jharkhand.
    • This flat belongs to Jahangir Alam, the servant of Mantri Aal's PA Sanjeev Lal.
    • ED had seized unaccounted cash of over Rs 37 crore from this flat.
    • Alam ordered to appear for questioning on May 14

70-year-old Congress leader Alamgir Alam is the rural development minister in Jharkhand. He is an MLA from Pakur Assembly Constituency. Former Chief Engineer of Jharkhand Rural Development Department Virendra K Ram, who was arrested last year in connection with alleged irregularities in the Rural Development Department. The raids were conducted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case against him. It has to do with alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes in the department.

In 2019, a large amount of cash was seized from one of Virendra K Ram's subordinates. Later, the Enforcement Directorate took over the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). A money laundering case is pending against Virender K Ram on a complaint by the Jharkhand Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Enforcement Directorate summons Alamgir Alam in case of unaccounted cash seizure. They were ordered to appear for questioning at the ED's divisional office in the capital Ranchi on 14th. He was arrested after interrogation. After today's hearing, Additional Solicitor General Anil Kumar said, “We have sought Alam's 10-day ED custody. But the court has sentenced him to 6 days custody.
