Actress Shabana Azmi married writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar. The couple did not have any children. Recently, Shabana talked about this in an interview. She said that it is tough for a married woman to survive in society without a child.
Shabana said in an interview to Indian Express, it was difficult for me to accept that I cannot become a mother. When a woman is unable to become a mother, the society keeps making her feel incomplete. In such a situation, one has to work hard to get out of this.
I think women find their worth in relationships whereas men do not. Men find satisfaction in their career and work. I think both genders should accept this and women should also find happiness in their work. Women should do something that gets them respect from their partner.

Shabana is Javed Akhtar's second wife. Both of them got married in 1984. Javed Akhtar was married to Honey Irani in 1972, with whom he had two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. Shabana shares a very good bonding with both of them.
Tried to break up many times before marriage
During an interview in 2004, Shabana said, 'Javed often brought poetry to Abba and sought advice. When I got to know him, he seemed a bit funny, well-informed and in many ways similar to Abba. This was the reason why I was attracted to him. Javed was already married, so we tried to break up several times. Later he divorced his first wife and we got married on 9 December 1984.
