ISRO Chandrayaan-3 News: IAU approves 'Shiva Shakti' name for 'Vikram' landing site | leader









Leader Online Desk: An important update in this regard has come out after completion of seven months of loading of India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the spot where Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander landed on the moon would be named 'Shiva Shakti'. Meanwhile this announcement has been officially approved by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Along with this, PM Modi also said that the landing day of Chandrayaan-3 will be declared as National Space Day on 23rd August. The Paris-based IAU approved the name “Statio Shivashakti” for the Chandrayaan-3 landing site on March 19, according to the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature, which details planetary names approved by the astronomical body. Regarding the origin of the name of Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander landing site, the Gazetteer said, “The compound words 'Shiva' and 'Shakti' in Indian mythology represent the names of Indian gods.
