Actress Patralekha, who recently came into the limelight with the release of the web series 'IC- 814 Kandahar Hijack', had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. She clearly said that she wants to distance herself from the tag of 'Rajkumar Rao's wife' and create her own identity. Patralekha also talked about her desire and struggle to make a name in the industry on her own.
I am glad that we are from the same industry.
When asked if she and Rajkummar Rao discuss their projects, Patralekha said, 'It doesn't happen often because sometimes the script is so good or the director is such that you have to work with him, that he agrees without saying anything or discussing anything. Yes, whenever there is a dilemma, we definitely discuss it. We are happy that we are from the same industry.'
I don't want to make a name for myself by sitting on the shoulders of Rajkumar
During the conversation, Patralekha revealed that she is often offered projects with the tag of 'Rajkummar Rao's wife'. She said, 'I am very hurt by this tag. I try my best to create my own space and make myself so strong that no one can say anything. I don't want to make a name for myself by sitting on his shoulders. That is why I left my hometown, Shillong, because I did not want to make a name for myself by sitting on my father's shoulders.'
Desire to identify oneself
She further said, 'Whether it is a matter of feminism or not, but I have a problem with this tag, I run away from this tag. Otherwise I could have done a lot of projects, right? But I do not want to make my name by sitting on their shoulders.'
I don't even remember the last time we fought
When asked if her and Rajkummar's personalities are different, she said, 'Our personalities are different, but they are also very similar. I don't even remember when we fought for the last time. We don't fight. Yes, our opinions are different, but we have been together for so many years that we have developed an understanding. I understand what he doesn't like and I don't talk about it. Our boundaries are also well set. By the way, both of us are very fond of movies. We can watch a movie every day. We are also very fond of watching series together. We are also very fond of travelling.'
Hope to do another film with Rajkumar
Will she and Rajkumar Rao be seen together in a project? On this Patralekha said, 'We will definitely do it in this lifetime. We will do another film, but we don't know when. Nothing so good has come out yet. I hope that the people who are listening to this write something for us. But yes, we will definitely do a film.'
He further said, 'Many filmmakers approach us, but the stories are not right or the directors are not right. We do not want to come together just to make a headline or to make a project. We love relationship drama. If we get a chance, we would like to work on this topic.'
Had to sign projects to survive in Mumbai
Did she ever sign a project just for money? Patralekha said, 'Yes, I definitely did. I had to do films to survive in Mumbai.' Patralekha told that there was a time when her bank balance had become zero, but she somehow managed to survive even in those bad times.
She further said, 'At that time, I wanted to take a lot of classes, but how much money should I take from my parents? Although they would never refuse, but you also feel a bit guilty, right? Bombay is very expensive. However, I was lucky that my parents had a house in Oshiwara. I was very protected. If you have food and shelter, Bombay is quite safe. And I had that safety net.'
Plan to do new things apart from films
Talking about exploring talents other than films, she said, “I think it's time now that I explore more things. Maybe I'll write something. Maybe one day I'll direct. Earlier I had kept everything closed, I thought I only wanted to be an actor. But now things change with time. Now the time has come that I want to explore more things.”
Talking about direction, Patralekha said, 'I want to show my childhood. I was in a boarding school. My childhood was very good. I made very good friends. Life in a boarding school is very different, so I want to show that because I have lived it.'
