Iraq launches rocket attack on US military base in Syria

Pudaari Online Desk: On Sunday (21st), Iraq fired a rocket at the American military base in Syria, the second day after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani returned from America. At least five rockets were fired from the Iraqi city of Jummar at a US military base in northeastern Syria, two Iraqi security sources said. This is the first attack on US forces since February, when Iran-backed groups in Iraq halted attacks against US forces.

A rocket launcher mounted on the back of a small truck was deployed in the Syrian border town of Zummar, Reuters reported. While the planes were in the sky, an explosion from an unfired rocket set the truck on fire, a military official said. “Until we investigate, we cannot confirm whether US warplanes bombed the truck or not,” said a military official on condition of anonymity.

A security official in Zummar city said Iraqi security forces have been deployed in the area. They have started a search for the criminals who escaped from the area using another vehicle. The Iraqi Security Medica Cell said in a statement that the Iraqi army had launched a major search operation to target the perpetrators near the Syrian border and promised to bring them to justice.
