Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi: Senior Congress leader Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi passed away









Leaders Online Desk: Senior Congress leader and former MP Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi passed away in a private hospital in Kalburgi early today (22nd). He was 80 years old. He represented Kalburgi Lok Sabha constituency twice.

Iqbal Ahmad Saradgi was born on 5 June 1944 in Gulbarga. Saradgi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Science, Gulbarga, and a Law degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad. In 1999, Saradgi went to the Lok Sabha for the first time after defeating his rival Basavaraj Patil Sedam of BJP by a margin of 69 thousand votes. In the Lok Sabha elections held in 2004, he again defeated Patil Sedam and represented Kalburgi in the Lok Sabha for the second time in a row.

After the delimitation of constituencies in 2008, when the constituency became reserved for Scheduled Castes, Mallikarjun Kharge got Saradgi's seat. Kharge represented the constituency for two consecutive terms before losing to BJP candidate Umesh Jadhav in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Saradagi was later elected as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council in 2014. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. Meanwhile, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has condoled the demise of Iqbal Ahmad Saradgi.
