Famous comedian Amit Tandon, who has earned fame across the country through stand-up comedy, came to a private university in Indore on Wednesday. Here he did a show with college students with a strong tadka of comedy on anecdotes related to their college life and received a standing ovation.

Amit Tandon, a resident of Chandigarh, did his MBA after engineering and started his own company related to HR consultancy. He started stand-up comedy as a hobby at the age of 30. He gained fame in a few days and made comedy his full-time profession. Amit is going to bring new content for the audience in October with a new chat show on his YouTube channel.
In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Amit Tandon spoke openly about his career and life as well as about his audience.

Q. You have reached the age group of 40's. Mostly the audience is youth based, so how is the connection formed between the stage and the audience?
A. Of course, now I am around 50, but since the beginning, my audience has been 40-50 plus. Sometimes I am surprised to see people up to 80 years of age on my show. Currently, the base of my audience is changing in the last few years.
Secondly, I don't work consciously. I tell the audience my own story, in which I also talk about my children. People in the age group of 40-50 connect with me because they see themselves in me. On the other hand, the teenagers and young audience see their father in me. Many times I say that I have not seen my children's ears for 5 years, then both types of audiences connect with me on this line.
Q. You have worked in two types of lifestyles. Which one is better?
A. This lifestyle is very demanding. Sometimes, apart from weekends, if there is a mid-week show, then also the time is spent in work and travelling. Overall, this life is more relaxed for me.
Q. The Married Guys tag appeared in your bio?
A. When I started, I used to tell people jokes about my married life. But at that time, the people around me were very young. I used to talk only about marriage. From then on, I became known as The Married Guys over the comedy scene.
Q. How did you see a career in comedy after mechanical engineering?
A. I left the field of mechanical engineering very soon. I worked in fashion designing for about a year. And then did my MBA. After working for 4-5 years, I felt like starting my own business. But only one work could be started with zero money.
Then I started working as a recruitment and HR consultant in partnership. My passion for writing and narrating also continued. To follow my passion, I started doing business shows during the day and comedy shows at night. After some time, people started liking my work. When I started getting corporate shows, I left business and completely devoted myself to my passion.
Q. You mention middle class families in most of your shows, why is that?
A. Middle class is a broad number of families. Every second person counts himself in the middle class. There has been a lot of change in the middle class in the last few years. I myself have lived that life and seen those days when there used to be a one bedroom house and no fridge in the kitchen.
Then I tell my story from my side and people also connect with it. Nostalgia is a product which has a very big market. People get happy just by listening to old things, sometimes there is no need to even crack a joke.
Q. Many times people get confused between the names of two Amit Tandons, how many times has this happened with you?
A. Yes, there is a very good singer and actor named Amit Tandon. People have such confusion between us that sometimes people go to Wikipedia to know about me and come back after reading about him. Some people think that I was born in New York, whereas I was born in Patiala. Then the problem became more when we left an apartment and he came to live in the same apartment. Then many times I got requests for singing.
Q. Is it difficult now for a comedy show to become a hit without vulgar content?
A. People have their own choices. Earlier there used to be one TV in the house which everyone used to watch together. Today everyone has their own screen. People want to watch all kinds of content. There is a different kind of audience for every comedy. The show is also planned accordingly, there is nothing wrong in this.
