Leader Online Desk: A 25-year-old Indian student, who was missing for the past one month, has been found dead in the US city of Ohio. Incidents against Indian communities abroad are increasing day by day. The Indian Consulate in New York confirmed Arfath's death. This is the second such incident in a week. So 2024 is the 11th event. “Saddened to learn that Mohammad Abdul Arafath, for whom a search operation was underway, has been found dead in Cleveland, Ohio,” the Indian Consulate in New York said in an X Post. Arfath came to the US in May 2023 to pursue a master's degree in information technology from the University of Cleveland. The 25-year-old went missing around March 7. Since then, his father said he had lost contact with Arafath and his phone was also switched off. (Indian Students In Us)
On March 19, Arafat's family received a ransom call and was told that he had been kidnapped by a drug-dealing gang. $1,200 was demanded for his release. The caller also threatened to sell the student's kidney if the ransom was not paid, Arafath's father said. (Indian Students In Us)
