Leader Online Desk: The petition of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who challenged the arrest of 'ED', was heard in the Supreme Court today (May 13). A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta refused to grant immediate relief on Soren's challenge plea. Therefore, the hearing of the petition challenging the arrest of Hemant Soren has been postponed once again. Meanwhile, the court has issued a notice to the ED in the case of Soren's arrest to respond by Friday, May 17. The court has clarified that the next hearing will be held on Friday, May 17.
Hemant Soren was arrested by ED on January 31 in connection with the land scam. Soron filed a petition challenging the ED's arrest in the Jharkhand High Court. It was dismissed on 3 May 2024. He filed a petition challenging this verdict in the Supreme Court. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued on behalf of Soren. The court has issued a notice to the ED to file a reply regarding Soren's arrest case. The court has clarified that the next hearing will be held on Friday, May 17.

What is the matter?
Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31. He is accused of money laundering in the land scam case. The former chief minister is currently in judicial custody in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Jail. In this case, the High Court had given one more week to the ED to respond to Soren's bail application. Earlier on April 27, a special PMLA court in Ranchi had refused to grant interim bail to Soren in the land scam case. Hemant Soren's uncle Ram Soren passed away on Saturday morning. He was sick for many days. Soren had sought a 13-day interim bail from the court to attend his uncle's funeral. However, the court refused to grant him bail during the hearing. In this dispute, Hemant Saeren filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
